Tech-Enabled Field Trips

Use GPS, tablets and smart phones to gather tracks, waypoints and geo-tagged photographs to tell the community (and the world) about your field trips.



This workshop is part of the 2018 Summer Spatial Institute

Summary:
English teachers! Art teachers! All "other-subject" teachers! Do you take your students on field trips?  Come learn how easy it is, to use borrowable classroom sets of devices to gather geo-tagged photographs, “tracks” and marked points.  Learn how easy it is to make simple map presentations of “Where you have been” and “What you have learned”.

In this workshop, we will cover:
  • using devices to collect map data
  • creating custom data collection forms for mapping projects
  • configuring and managing online mapping 
  • determining the best ways to use mobile mapping in your classroom
  • how to access sets of GPS devices and tablets for your classroom use
